Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to examine the application of behaviorist psychological theory in Christian religious education for children, highlighting both theoretical perspectives and practical implementation in the learning context. The main issue addressed is how behaviorist principles which emphasize stimulus-response, reinforcement, and the shaping of behavior through habituation can be effectively utilized in forming children's character and religious understanding within Christian education. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the relevance and effectiveness of this theory in creating a learning process that supports children's spiritual and moral development from an early age. The method employed in this study is library research, through the analysis of various literature related to behaviorist theory and Christian education for children. A descriptive-qualitative approach is used to describe and interpret theoretical concepts and their applications in the context of religious education. The findings indicate that behaviorist theory can make a significant contribution to Christian religious education for children, particularly through the use of positive reinforcement methods, repetition of material, and the development of spiritual habits. For example, reinforcement in the form of praise or rewards when a child shows loving behavior or memorizes Bible verses can strengthen the desired positive behaviors. However, this approach must be complemented with elements of love, personal relationships, and Christian faith values to avoid a purely mechanistic application. Therefore, the implementation of behaviorist theory in Christian education should be integrated wisely so that the goal of teaching is not only to shape external behavior but also to foster the holistic growth of a child’s faith.
